The Elevation

The building is located in the upcoming neighborhood of Halifax’s North End, on a bustling traffic connector to downtown. The Commercial ground floor fronts onto three different streets with full height curtain wall, taking advantage of the high visibility and pedestrian activity of the neighborhood. The design of the podium is a simply detailed brick box with inset balconies, and a patio garden feature on its roof. The tower design maximizes the allowable footprint but then splits the bulk of the form into two smaller and proportionally more slender and visually appealing masses. The south facing form is wrapped in dark panels creating a large frame. The frame protects the living room balconies from the wind, and focuses on the beautiful downtown and ocean views to the south. The second mass is predominantly expressed in glass and spandrel with secondary metal clad frames within it. The frames are set with accent lighting, creating a strong brand presence and drama at night. The mechanical penthouse on the roof is uplit at night like a beacon and increasing the building visibility, from all approaches and long vistas
