Dalhousie Arts Centre

The Dalhousie University Arts Centre Project renovated the existing Dal Arts Centre, the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium and added 50,000 sq. ft. of new cultural spaces for the Fountain School of Performing Arts.  The new LEED Gold cultural spaces include a Recital Hall, costume studies' design studios, practice rooms and theatrical rehearsal halls.

Conceived of as cultural cathedral, the Recital Hall is designed as a naturally acoustic showpiece for Dalhousie University, as well as a jewel in the crown of the Nova Scotian artistic and cultural communities.  The solar powered Recital Hall has been designed and detailed as a world class acoustic environment, further enhancing the national reputation of Dalhousie's Fountain School of Performing Arts.

The 308 seat Recital Hall provides intimate seating in a combination of main floor, side parterre and upper balcony seating.  Sound absorbing acoustic draperies are motorized and fully integrated in retractable pockets to provide variable acoustic environments required for varying performance typologies. This project was completed in association with Thomas Payne Architect.
